The work focuses on reading sales and use tax statutes and regulations and defining precise, testable requirements that AI-generated formal translations must satisfy. Contributors will work across multiple U.S. state jurisdictions, with occasional federal provisions, evaluating statutory logic, exceptions, thresholds, and edge cases. No prior AI experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret sales and use tax statutes and regulations across U.S. state jurisdictions and occasional federal tax provisions.
  • Analyze statutory language at the individual subsection level, including conditions, thresholds, defined terms, exceptions, and logical structures.
  • Author detailed rubrics that break sections of law into discrete and testable requirements grounded strictly in statutory text.
  • Assign appropriate severity levels to rubric requirements based on genuine statutory importance.
  • Review AI-generated formal translations of statutes and score them against established criteria.
  • Verify that conditions, thresholds, AND/OR logic, exceptions, and other statutory requirements are accurately represented.
  • Write clear and self-contained test scenarios for failed criteria, including explicit facts, dates, amounts, and expected outcomes.
  • Identify and flag discrepancies, statutory exceptions, edge cases, and genuine ambiguities in applicable law.
  • Submit precise and structured written evaluations through a digital review platform.

Requirements

  • Active CPA license, Chartered Accountant designation, or professional experience as a U.S. tax attorney.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret U.S. tax statutes and regulations rather than solely preparing tax returns.
  • Experience with sales and use tax or broader state and local tax statutes is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of legal logic, including conditions, thresholds, AND/OR structures, exceptions, and defined terms.
  • Excellent written communication skills with an emphasis on precision, clarity, and reproducibility of conclusions.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly when analyzing statutory exceptions, qualifications, and edge cases.
  • Ability to provide structured feedback and evaluations through digital review interfaces.
  • Experience across multiple U.S. state tax jurisdictions is preferred.
  • Enrolled Agent designation or relevant federal tax experience is advantageous.
  • Experience reviewing AI-generated or technology-driven tax content is a plus.
