SolidWorks Specialist
micro1 is engaging SolidWorks Specialists to contribute to a high-impact mechanical design project focused on advanced parametric CAD modeling and AI training. Specialists will create, edit, and audit complex mechanical parts and assemblies, apply GD&T and Design for Manufacturability principles, manage robust feature trees, and document design decisions. Strong SolidWorks experience is directly transferable to FreeCAD, which is the primary software used for this project.

Responsibilities
- Create fully parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical parts and assemblies based on detailed written briefs.
- Build robust feature trees with precise dimensions, constraints, and clearly defined design intent.
- Edit and update existing parametric models to satisfy revised technical and engineering requirements.
- Document CAD model modifications and associated design decisions clearly.
- Audit models for dimensional accuracy, tolerance application, feature-tree quality, and manufacturability.
- Apply GD&T principles and appropriate tolerances to mechanical designs.
- Apply Design for Manufacturability principles across injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, casting, and forging workflows.
- Translate engineering requirements and design intent into structured, high-quality CAD data suitable for AI training.
- Perform assembly-level modeling and manage relationships between mechanical components.
- Provide detailed written reports and technical feedback to project coordinators and other contributors.
- Contribute professional mechanical design expertise to improve AI model training and evaluation.

Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on parametric CAD experience for model editing assignments.
- Approximately 10+ years of experience may be required for creating complex mechanical assemblies.
- Strong professional proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable parametric CAD platforms.
- Experience with FreeCAD, Fusion 360, or Autodesk Inventor is highly relevant.
- Current or recent involvement in professional mechanical or industrial CAD modeling.
- Practical experience applying GD&T according to ASME Y14.5 or equivalent standards.
- Demonstrated Design for Manufacturability experience across at least two manufacturing methods such as injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining, casting, or forging.
- Strong understanding of feature-tree management, dimensional constraints, and tolerance application.
- Experience creating and managing assembly-level mechanical models.
- Reverse engineering experience involving scan-to-CAD or point cloud conversion is a significant advantage.
- Experience automating CAD workflows using Python, iLogic, VBA, or similar scripting technologies is advantageous.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce clear technical and project documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and mechanical problem-solving ability.
