Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end payroll processing across all pay cycles, including new hires, terminations, status changes, bonuses, commissions, and off-cycle runs.
- Calculate, reconcile, and remit payroll taxes, garnishments, benefits deductions, and 401(k) contributions in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Manage the full accounts payable lifecycle, including invoice intake, GL coding, approval routing, and vendor payments by ACH, check, and wire.
- Perform three-way matching of invoices, purchase orders, and receipts and resolve discrepancies with vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Maintain vendor master data, collect W-9 forms, and prepare and file annual 1099s.
- Reconcile payroll and accounts payable subledgers to the general ledger and prepare journal entries and accruals for month-end close.
- Monitor accounts payable aging and payment terms to support cash-flow management and capture early-payment discounts.
- Administer employee expense reimbursements and corporate card programs while ensuring policy compliance.
- Respond accurately and professionally to employee payroll inquiries and vendor payment questions.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and reconciliations.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls across payroll and accounts payable functions.
- Identify and implement opportunities to automate and scale payroll and accounts payable workflows.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of hands-on payroll and/or accounts payable experience.
- Working knowledge of payroll tax regulations and wage-and-hour compliance.
- Solid understanding of accounts payable processes, GL coding, and accrual accounting fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with a payroll platform and an ERP or accounting system.
- Strong proficiency with Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel.
- High level of accuracy and discretion when handling confidential payroll and financial information.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage recurring, non-negotiable deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote, fast-paced startup environment.
- FPC or CPP certification, or progress toward a professional payroll or accounting certification, is preferred.
- Multi-state payroll experience is preferred.
- Experience with 1099 reporting and monthly, quarterly, or year-end payroll tax reporting is advantageous.
- Exposure to AI tools or automated accounting and payroll workflows is a plus.
