Data-heavy Chemistry/Materials Science Expert

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive, data-rich insights based on experience in chemistry or materials science, especially where AI coding agents have been integrated into technical workflows.
• Document real-world scenarios involving AI agents for large codebase navigation, challenging debugging, feature development, and architectural modifications.
• Compose clear and detailed written accounts and participate in feedback sessions explaining scientific methodologies and the impact of AI tools on technical problem-solving.
• Evaluate the effectiveness and limitations of AI agents in scientific workflows and provide actionable recommendations for improving AI systems in STEM contexts.
• Collaborate remotely with the project team to share domain-specific expertise and facilitate knowledge transfer through written and verbal communication.
• Contribute to datasets and training materials that reflect authentic chemistry and materials science practices using AI code-generation tools.
• Identify complex technical challenges and case studies where AI coding agents enhanced productivity or enabled new scientific outcomes.

Skills

Requirements

• Advanced degree or equivalent professional experience in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or a closely related STEM field.
• Proven proficiency with AI coding agents including Codex, Claude Science, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork for generating code sequences in scientific environments.
• Ability to apply AI agents beyond basic code assistance, including debugging intricate issues, building end-to-end features, and addressing ambiguous scientific problems.
• Experience contributing to projects involving large or complex codebases in computational chemistry, materials modeling, or laboratory automation.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a strong focus on technical documentation and knowledge sharing.
• Experience evaluating, adopting, or developing new workflows using AI-powered tools in scientific research or industrial environments.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities with the ability to clearly articulate process decisions and results for AI system training purposes.
• No prior AI experience is required if the candidate has the required scientific domain expertise and relevant technical workflow experience.
